The Moshal Scholarship Program is now open for applications for the 2025 academic year.

This scholarship is for students who need financial support to study for a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), or Commerce. 

If you dream of studying at a top university in South Africa but worry about funding, this bursary might be for you.

Study Fields Covered by the Bursary

The Moshal Scholarship covers a wide range of degree programs in different fields.

If you want to study any of the following degrees, you can apply:

Science:

  • Dentistry
  • Medicine (MBChB)
  • Pharmacy (Only at the University of KwaZulu-Natal)
  • Veterinary Science

Technology:

  • Computer Science
  • Data Science
  • Information Science
  • Information Systems
  • Information Technology

Engineering:

  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechatronic Engineering

Mathematics:

  • Actuarial Science
  • Econometrics
  • Mathematics
  • Statistics

Commerce:

  • Accounting
  • Economics
  • Financial Sciences
  • Investment Management
  • Management Sciences

The degree programs and universities supported by the Moshal Program may change at their discretion.

Bursary Coverage

The Moshal Scholarship provides more than just tuition fees. It covers:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Living and meal allowances
  • One-on-one support throughout your degree
  • Career guidance
  • Professional workshops and training
  • Extra English training
  • Help with CV writing, mock interviews, and vacation work opportunities

If you are shortlisted, you may need to attend an interview. If your application is unsuccessful, you will be informed via email.

Funding Duration and Renewal

The Moshal Scholarship will fund your entire degree, provided that you meet the program’s requirements each year. 

You must maintain good academic performance and participate in program activities to continue receiving funding.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, you must meet these requirements:

  1. Be in Matric or have completed Matric
  2. Plan to study towards a degree in one of the eligible fields in 2025
  3. Be accepted to study at one of these universities:
    • Nelson Mandela University (NMU)
    • Rhodes University (RU)
    • Stellenbosch University (SUN)
    • University of Cape Town (UCT)
    • University of Free State (UFS)
    • University of Johannesburg (UJ)
    • University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN)
    • University of Pretoria (UP)
    • University of the Western Cape (UWC)
    • University of Witwatersrand (WITS)
  4. Achieve a minimum of 70% in English, Mathematics, Physical Science, and/or Accounting
  5. Have a family income of NOT more than R200,000 per year before deductions

Steps to Apply

  1. Apply online at the Moshal Program Scholarship Application 2025 portal.
  2. Create an account before submitting your application.
  3. Upload clear copies of the following documents:
    • ID document
    • Passport and study visa (if you are not a South African citizen)
    • Parents’ or guardians’ ID copies
    • Signed Declaration/Consent Form (if under 18 years old)
    • Proof of social grants or parents’/guardians’ three months’ bank statements
    • Grade 11 November results
  4. Save and continue your application later if needed. Once you click “Submit,” you cannot make changes.

If shortlisted, you must submit additional documents, including:

  • Final Matric results (if in Matric)
  • Latest full university transcript (if currently studying)
  • Proof of acceptance from your university
  • NBT scores (if available)
  • Proof of application for other funding
  • Parents’/guardians’ proof of income (payslips)
